Post-Session 2: Critical Review

Critical Review: Alan Pears

In his article ‘Slash Australians’ power bills by beheading a duck at night’, Alan Pears discusses the daily trend of Australian’s power usage, which has been labeled ‘the duck’ because of the unusual shape of the chart.

Reflection:

I found this article quite interesting, and it forced me to do some more research on aspects of the article that I thought could have been done better or more effectively. I understand that Pears was trying to appeal to a broad audience and not put too much technical jargon into the article but I wanted a less casually written piece.

However, what was fascinating was that this problem is faced not only in Australia but around the world. California are one state that are actively trying to stop the 'duck' from happening. I wonder if it is only first world countries or countries everywhere? I assume that most European and American cities would have the same issue and hopefully they are all trying to do something.
