Group Assignment: Initial Ideas
So we've formed groups for the group assignment and are flicking around ideas.
I suggested that we be very specific in the choice of building that we would produce a rating tool for, to make it easier for the group to go in-depth, rather than producing a broad and shallow tool.
I threw out rating McDonalds as an initial idea. Why McDonalds, those greedy global giants of fast food slop? Mainly because they are such a distinctive part of the Australian landscape (very sadly) and I did some research and found that a McDonalds in Victoria had been rated by Green Star.
Check it out here: https://www.gbca.org.au/green-star/green-building-case-studies/mcdonalds-kilsyth-south-restaurant/
Also, while I think McDonalds is a terrible blight on our country and our waistbands, they have so much power that if they decide to make a difference in their sustainability approach, then it would have a huge impact. Hopefully they are looking to improve, see below:

So we agreed on McDonalds. Scott did some great digging and somehow managed to procure the Green Star rating tool for the South Kilsyth McDonalds and away we went.
We split up the first part of the assignment by each taking parts of the tool itself, and we were to expand and give parameters for a future McDonalds to be rated.
I was given the Waste section of the tool, which I was happy about. I want to use a number of similar tools that are global and blend them in together.
